Reshoring Canada co-chair the Hon. Tony Clement applauded commitments made by the Conservatives, the Liberals and the New Democrats to address supply chain issues in their respective election platforms.
“The platform Secure the Future issued by Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole at the start of the election campaign commits to diversifying supply chains away from China, promoting a North American supply chain for pharmaceuticals and vaccines, and developing a critical minerals strategy,” Clement noted.
The Liberal Party Platform “Forward. For Everyone” also contains specific proposals to build an end-to-end sustainable battery supply chain as well as the development and protection of critical minerals.
The New Democratic Party (NDP) platform commits to “industrial strategies to incubate and expand critical domestic manufacturing capacity” in a number of different sectors. “While lacking some specifics, the NDP have committed to a process that will increase our manufacturing base, which is a step in the right direction,” said Clement.
“This is exactly the kind of effort needed to create a resilient supply chain for Canada to produce jobs, enhance national security, and promote the health and welfare of Canadians,” Clement commented.
